Misc. Monday

Miscellany Monday @ lowercase letters

(1) Today sadly ends my 10 day Easter/Spring Break.  I enjoyed every minute of it but the home stretch until June is going to be killer.

(2) This is the third time I've sounded like a man lost my voice this year.  My students are going to start to wonder if I really sound like this.

(3) I'm really working on this couch to 5k program.  I did do track in HS but I was by no means a 'runner'.  This program takes that into account and is meant for new runners.  I decided to start the program with my former college roommate and its working out well!  I will keep you updated!

(4) In the same vein I have started using the widget from the daily mile to track my workouts.  When I've lost some weight I will start a tab with my weightloss!

(5) Saturday was amazing in the mitten.  It was 75 and gorgeous.  I am ready for summer!

Back to lesson planning I go!

is it bad that I am already ready for the weekend?

What I'm Loving Wednesday

First off I feel that my blog has been neglected.  We were in Miami for one of my best friend's weddings last week and it's made the last week kind of crazy!

(1) I'm loving how blissed out I'm feeling after our mini vacay in Miami.  Here are some of the highlights:

The Savoy Hotel on Ocean Dr in South Beach.   We LOVED this hotel.  I found it on the blind price feature on Expedia.  I knew I was getting a hotel on the beach on South Beach and that it was on the actual beach, but nothing else.  It was around $120 a night, a lovely old art deco style and had huge rooms.

This is the view of The Savoy from the beach.  They had cabanas and everything!

The Beach.  It was sunnier than it looks in this picture (crappy cell phone pic)

Viscaya.  A turn of the century European inspired mansion on Biscayne Bay.  Beautiful.  I highly recommend it!

Another pic of the gardens at Viscaya.  Gorgeous!

Red Velvet Cake from Ice Box in Miami.  Oprah called it, 'The Best Cake in America' and it does not disappoint!

My future car.  (I wish)

I will post an entry on our mini-Miami vacay this weekend.  These were my pics from my cell phone.  It was 90 and sunny, perfect for me!

(2) I'm loving that this week is a 3 1/2 day week from me and next week is a 4 day week, followed by Spring Break!  It really doesn't get much better than that!

(3) I'm loving Spring items that are out now!  Here are a few:

Disco mini
Disco Mini from J. CREW

VSpink---MSU

Anthropologie

Beach coverup from Antrhopologie.

 (3) I'm loving 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo'.  One of the best books I've read in awhile.  Next on the list: 'Water for Elephants'.

(4) I'm loving that I've lost 12 pounds in the last few weeks and joined up with some lovely ladies at Sparkpeople.com for support.  Summer here I come!

Have a lovely rest of the work week!

Saturday Q & A

What a beautiful sunny day in (otherwise cold) MI!

While psyching myself up to do some Spring cleaning I thought I'd share a post from Jamie!

1. If you have pets, do you see them as merely animals or are they members of your family?

I would hope most would say members of their family!  We just adopted our lovely kitty Oliver from a rescue group last October, he's 7 months old and adorable!

IMAG0309.jpg

2. If you could have a dream come true, what would it be?
Get married, travel, have a successful career and a healthy family.  You know a little bit of everything ;)

3. What would you do with a billion dollars?
Give some to family, donate to charity, set up scholarships for my alma mater, all the usual stuff.

4. What helps to pull you out of a bad mood?
Cleaning or Shopping.  I try to avoid the latter.  I have way too many clothes, purses and shoes!
From a few years ago but I have this purse and LOVE it. The leather is beautiful.

I love my pink Ipad

I'm starting to feel to old to buy from the pink section but I love the collegiate collection!
On my wish list!

One of my favorite Xmas presents, I love pink and vera bradley!

Also on my wish list ;)

5. What is your bedtime routine?
I try to organize my bag for work, shoes and outfit.  Run some laundry if needed and tidy up a bit, check my work e-mail, shower, braid my hair and head off to bed!  I try to shower at night since I have to leave for work by 5:30.  I unbraid my hair and have soft waves that I can do a variety of hairstyles with in under 5 minutes, get dressed grab, my stuff, coffee and run out the door!

6. What activities did you do in high school? If you could go back, would you do the same stuff or something different?

I was in track and marching band.  I had some amazing friends (almost all of whom I still see on a regular basis) and I would go back just to see them everyday!!  But I agree with most that high school was hard (socially at least).

7. What kind of books do you read?

I am trying to read through the classics right now.  I also love Charlaine Harris, she wrote the books that True Blood is based off of!

8. How do you see yourself in 10 years?

Wow.  Its hard to imagine myself 34.  I would love to be married, have two kids and live in a bigger house.  Either have decided to stay in education and be a department head or counselor.  Or have taken time off to be a stay at home mom and go to law school at night.  Either one (if I'm happy) works for me.

9. What’s your fear?
The unknown.  I am a compulsive lock checker (not extremely but a little bit ;)  I have to check that the doors are closed before we leave, go to bed, etc.

10. Would you give up all junk food for the rest of your life for the opportunity to see outer space?
Nope.  I love my junk food and hate any type of airplane, I'm assuming this would apply to spacecraft as well.

11. What’s the first thing you do when you wake up?
Make sure the coffee is brewing before I get ready for work.

12. If you could change one thing about your significant other, what would it be?
A is great.  It would be awesome if he was as timely as I am though!  Just saying...lol.

13. If you could pick a new name for yourself, what would it be?
I never really used to like my name.  Very 80s and dated.  I also always wanted to have a name with normal nicknames but my parents both hated that their names had shorter versions so they picked Heather on purpose.  I like it enough though.  I want romantic and unique names for my kids though.

14. If you had to choose between six months of sun or six months of rain, what would you choose?
You don't even have to ask.  The sun and I have a love/love relationship.

15. If you could only eat one thing for the next 6 months, what would it be?
Pizza.  I love pizza.  BBQ chicken and red onion pizza sound amazing right now...

16. What is the thing you enjoy about blogging the most?

I'm just starting and I'm loving it so far.  I love to use it to unwind and read great ideas on projects and fashion.  I'm hoping to make some great blog friends eventually as well!

17. Do you prefer salty or sweet foods?
Sweet.  Mmm

18. What items are in your purse right now?

Wallet, sunglasses, small perfume, lipgloss, Tide 2 go pen, pen, vitamins, camera, ipod.  Yeah, my purse is a small suitcase!

19. Name three things on your bucket list.

Start and Etsy shop, run a 5k and go to Ireland!

I have my bucket list as a side tab if you want to read it.  It's currently labeled, 30 before 30 and I'm still adding to it.

20. What do you watch on television that you know you shouldn’t?
Hmm.  Vampire Diaries?  I love that show, even though its set in high school and I feel like I'm the oldest person watching it!

fill in the blank friday

I've been neglecting my blog this week and I feel guilty!!  Unfortunately this was one of those weeks at school...and finals are next week.  I have some great posts for next week though so hopefully that makes up for it. ;)

1. The phrase or punctuation I overuse most is... I love ellipses...they are great for separating thoughts and punctuating how I would actually speak, so versatile!

2. Today I am thankful for having a job.  Even though this has been the best/worst year of my life (welcome to the first year of teaching!), it has also been the most rewarding.  For every unforseen issue, late night planning, subbing on my prep, and 125 essays to grade, teaching high school is never a dull moment and my students are great (well 99% of them ;) )

3. My best friend is (are) quite a few people.  I have some great friends from H.S./College that have stuck by me through everything, they are truly amazing people!

4. A quirky thing about me is that I am a bit OCD for organization, locking doors, etc.  I like things to be in a certain place and I have to check every door to make sure it's locked, when I go to bed (and maybe a couple times before that...)

5. This weekend I am going to try to relax.  I also want to go to the gym (2x) and buy a scale so I can track my progress and keep myself accountable!!  If you know of any great weight loss link ups let me know!

6. Something that worries me is whether I'll have a job next year...my district hands out a lot of pink slips :(

7. On my night stand you would find my cell phone.  Unfortunately my temporary night stand is the smallest table ever made and my droid and maybe a remote will fit on it.  I need to find some cute and affordable night stands that will match our color scheme for the bedroom.  Let me know if you have any  ideas!

Have a Great Weekend!!!

Sunday Musings

I have a sincerely love/hate relationship with Sundays.  I love having a (usually) relaxing day, but I often leave lesson planning/grading/laundry/grocery shopping until Sunday to do.  Which means I usually am running around doing everything today.  Sigh.

I am trying some new coupon sites to save on groceries.  We seem to spend so much every week on food.  I'll probably update more on this in a couple weeks, after my week off I plan to try a bunch of new recipes (Allrecipes.com) and see how much money I'm saving.

I also started going to the gym more than a couple times a week, so a weight loss update will be uploaded soon, I like the weight-loss wednesday tag.

Hope everyone has a lovely end to their weekend!!
